At the Department of Food Science, in the Science Team for Food Technology (FT), a
full-time position as Laboratory Purchaser and Chemical Safety Coordinator is available for appointment as from October 15, 2023, or soon thereafter.
Position activities
As purchaser and Chemical Safety Coordinator (AC-TAP), you will coordinate and place orders of chemicals, basic consumables, small equipment, and other laboratory-based items and be the Chemical Safety Coordinator for the Department of Food Science. You will be responsible for tasks related to ordering, supplier contact, and handling invoices both at the project and Department level, as well as registering chemicals in relevant databases. In addition, you will be managing the chemical safety of the laboratories including safety training of staff and students, and providing updates on new practices and protocols related to chemical handling and storage. You will co-work with another colleague both on the purchase function based on ordering inputs and requests from scientific staff, laboratory technicians and students, and on the chemical safety together with laboratory technicians, in an international working environment.
Primarily activities:
- Purchase of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and small equipment via ordering in the IndFak software system
- Contact to suppliers of laboratory chemicals and consumables
- Handling invoices in Indfak
- Registration of chemicals in relevant databases
- Monitoring handling and use of toxic and hazardous chemicals
- Management of chemical safety by assisting staff in chemical risk assessment, and approving analytical protocols
- Instruction of staff and students by a course in chemical risk assessment; risk and safety labelling, handling, storage, protective aids, action if accidents, and chemical waste handling
- Management of the laboratory storage for hazardous chemicals
- Keeping staff and students updated on current safety regulations.
Qualifications
We are looking for a service minded individual with a background or education within a chemical, biological, or technical area, and with interest and flair for working and reporting within online systems. Knowledge of the IndFak system is a requirement, and the candidate must have interest in working with purchasing software. Experience in chemical risk assessment and laboratory safety following the latest Danish regulations is a requirement. We expect a high sense of structure, ability to keep an overview, clear written and oral communication skills, authority in giving instructions and when training, and a good command of both the Danish and English languages.
We offer a professional, dynamic, and international research environment, where we
largely communicate in English. The laboratories have Bachelor, Master, and PhD students as well as guest-researchers, therefore, you must be very comfortable with reading and speaking English, which is the daily language in the Department, hence, you will be receiving purchase requests and communicating in both Danish and English.
